Wave Maker Craft Brewery believes that the brewing industry is a place where everyone, regardless of race, age, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, appearance, physical & mental ability, or religion, should be able to work and enjoy beer free from harassment, discrimination, and prejudice. Every person who comes into our taproom should feel welcome to engage in positive dialogue free of any and all discrimination, threats, harassment, or unsafe activities or conditions. If anyone in our space is not adhering to this code of conduct, staff or management will take appropriate measures to ensure these values are upheld. We do not tolerate harassment of employees, customers, or vendors in any form. These values are expected from management, employees, suppliers, vendors, and patrons, and apply both within our establishment as well as in business dealings, or at events, festivals, or any situation Wave Maker Craft Brewery is involved with. Wave Maker is committed to continually working on building and contributing to a safer, more inclusive industry.
For staff, any incidents are to be reported to management, as per the Wave Maker Zero Tolerance Guide for Staff, and an incident report is to be completed for management follow-up. Employees who do not uphold these values will face disciplinary action, which could range from verbal or written warnings to suspension or termination.
For patrons, if you hear or witness any incidents in the Wave Maker Brewery space, or at off-site events Wave Maker is running or participating in, that go against our values, please feel free to reach out to scott@wavemakerbrewery.com or by calling the brewery at 519-653-2332 to ensure a thorough investigation.
The issue of sexism in the craft beer industry has been brought to the forefront over the past few months. Brienne Allan (@ratmagnet), the head brewer out of Notch Brewing in Salem Massachusetts, used her Instagram page for a series of posts stating her experiences with sexism, and then asked others to share their experiences. This led to a huge outpouring of replies by people sharing their experiences of sexual harassment, misogyny, sexual assault, and racism, and highlighted the ongoing struggle of being a woman or part of a marginalized group in the industry. We were horrified as we learned about the rampant issues within our chosen industry, and we emphatically reiterate that Wave Maker is committed to continually working on building and contributing to a safer, more inclusive industry.
