Word of MouthCommunity Building
Our founder and brewmaster Scott Pautler grew up very close to where Wave Maker sits. His dream was to open in Preston specifically to be part of the community he grew up in. We like to think of our amazing customers as part of the Wave Maker family, allowing us into their lives as they celebrate events or spend time hanging out with us. Our taproom staff loves meeting people and chatting about whatever interests you—especially beer of course! And of course when you visit our establishment, purchase our products, or share Wave Maker with friends and family, you are supporting that community.
Our motto is Beer With Soul! We believe that every beer style we explore should push the boundaries, while protecting its honoured traditions. And of course be high quality. But quality is only one aspect; you could make the same beer over and over and have amazing quality—but we want more. Using inspiration from brewing cultures worldwide, our brewers love doing new things. Our lineup features only a couple of what you would call 'core brands'—but lots of one-offs! The adventure is figuring out ways to make beer our customers will love, all while satisfying our creative urges.
Scott Pautler is an award-winning Brewmaster who blends science and art in his craft. Having graduated from the Brewmaster and Brewery Operations program at Niagara College and from the Accounting Co-op undergraduate program from Brock University, Scott approaches brewing with both an artisanal and analytical eye.
At Wave Maker you're sitting right in with the brewing tanks, but that's not the same as an actual tour! Come in for a free inside look at how we developed our brand, beer ingredients, a walk-through of the brewing area, and a detailed look at entire brewing process start to finish—our fun tour will only take you 15 minutes.
We know people like grabbing a nibble while out having drinks with friends and family, so we have a couple of things that'll pair well with our beer and take the edge off. Currently that includes nacho chips & salsa, a variety of chips (including beer-bathed kettle chips), and a must-have pretzel with mustard sauce!
We have a fun and lively atmosphere for groups to come celebrate. We've been lucky enough to share our customers' birthdays, engagement parties, retirement parties, and more. We can arrange food for you or you can arrange that part yourself—either way we'll have lots of delicious beer to make your event fun and unique.
*PATIO ONLY. Craft breweries are a place people love to grab a pint with their furry friends. Sadly, our license prohibits dogs—service animals excepted—from entering the brewery. Come on inside with your human friends or bring your well-behaved canine friend to the patio where they are welcomed—and with a water bowl!
Bring your own or pick from our selection - no matter what you choose it's a fun way to pass the time. Ask at the bar or look at the bottom of the merch shelving—if you have a game (with all of its necessary parts) that you don't really use any more, bring it by—we'd love to add it to the collection.
Our space is small, so we don't have live music often, and we don't have room for full bands. However, every now and then we get someone going with a guitar and a box full of sing-along tunes—it's always a ton of fun, so keep your eyes open for the next one. Check the events listings for future music (or other) events.
We have hoodies. We have shirts. They are comfy, cozy, and obviously will make you look cool. 'Nuff said.
Branded glasses ranging from the classic Manchester pint glass to Belgian-style tulips.
Embroidered WM mesh-back ball caps? We've got a variety of colours of stitching to make your decision a tough one!
Wave Maker loves having special events at the brewery, whether they are in the taproom or outside on our patio. This could mean a delicious food pop-up, trivia, music bingo, or ???

“It's not just about the beer - although each one is always a hit. There's a palpable vibe when you walk in. It's just one of those rare gems that draws you in and keeps you coming back.”
“I am amazed at how good their beers were right out of the gate - my experience is that new breweries often have growing pains. As an original customer I can also say that they continue to get better and better - especially the IPAs and DIPAs!”
“Wave Maker Craft Brewery has a wide variety of style of beers to choose from. Their wonderful staff have a wealth of beer knowledge about the beers on tap. Scott does a great job of brewing many styles of beer. Great atmosphere to enjoy a pint solo or with friends. Music and game nights are a great way to meet new people and see old friends.”
We here at Wave Maker understand that we have it good. We are fortunate that way, and we want to make sure that we do our best to help those less fortunate. We periodically run or participate in events that allow us to contribute to organizations that are also fighting to make a difference in people's lives—or occasionally directly to the people themselves. And it is all made possible by the amazing support of our customers and other concerned citizens, so we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Here are some of the community outreach efforts we have been part of.
